Last week, Økokrim decided to open an investigation against former ambassador Mona Juul and her husband Terje Rød‑Larsen. Juul is charged with aggravated corruption, while Terje Rød‑Larsen is charged with contribution to aggravated corruption. Following a court search order, Økokrim today searched an apartment in Frogner, Oslo, and also conducted a search at a witness’s premises.
- We have opened an investigation to determine whether any criminal conduct has taken place. We are facing a comprehensive and what will seemingly be a long‑lasting investigation, says Pål Lønseth, Director of Økokrim.
Juul is charged with aggravated corruption based on her positions in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Økokrim will, among other things, investigate whether she has received benefits in connection with those positions.
Continues working on the material
Økokrim is still processing the material in the Epstein files. As is already known, Økokrim has previously opened an investigation against former Prime Minister, former head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and former Secretary‑General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland.
- Regarding other information contained in the material, we will have to return to that at a later stage. The material is extensive, and the assessment will therefore still take some time, Lønseth adds.
